How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows provide a number of perks for homeowners in Annapolis, one being better energy efficiency. Regardless if you’re exploring online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is an important factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great product if you’re wanting increased efficiency.

Most new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is more dense than air, which provides additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you notice that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, it’s likely that you have developed a greater leak and the gas has been switched with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to determine if this is what’s happened:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you find out that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can reach out to the manufacturer to find out if it falls underneath your warranty.
Depending on the age of your windows and the conditions causing the leak, it may make sense to start researching replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important features of your windows, and if that is inhibited it can affect your heating and cooling expenses.
